They say there’s no such thing as an original idea. If you’ve decided to throw an event, then you have some planning to do. We know you want to throw a party like Gatsby off your own ideas, but there’s nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from elsewhere or asking for help. The venue, catering, décor, theme and entertainment are all factors that need to be considered and thought out. They also need to seamlessly fit together to reflect the direction and theme of your event. If you aren’t sure where to start, there are plenty of places to go for influence. Keep reading to discover our tips for finding inspiration for your next event.
Mood Boards
Mood boards are a great way for you to visually conceptualize the pieces of your party and how they look together. Your board can include anything from photography, designs, illustrations, color palettes, textures, words or just about anything! By putting these elements in one place—specifically a poster board—you can see which aspects of your event work and the ones that don’t. This way, you can make decisions on your décor, theme, color scheme and more without fretting about inconsistency.
Pinterest is a great online platform that you can draw inspiration ideas into a digital mood board. You can search for keywords like “party playlist,” “color palettes” or “event theme ideas” and will be shown thousands of ideas that can be “repinned” to your folder. Also, these “pins” are usually hyperlinks so you can be easily connected to the idea’s source for further research. Pinterest allows you to collect a ton of different ideas then choose from your favorites to implement into your party.
Ask a Friend
Your friends and family are great people to consult for ideas, especially if they’ve recently thrown a spectacular event as well. They’ll be able to give guidance and the pros and cons of their event. Ask them the challenges they faced, if they ran into any issues and the steps they took to fix it. This way, there’ll be no unexpected panics in the days leading up to your party.
Consult Your Vendors
The vendors you book for your event are some of your biggest and most valuable sources for ideas and inspiration. Being in the event industry has given them plenty of insight from past events that they’ve worked. Your florist will be able to tell you which flowers match your color palette, while the staff at your venue can let you know the best way to utilize the space. After a consultation, they’ll be able to execute your event exactly how you dreamed.
